Gainesville ORT - Signs, Legislation in FL ST & Vision for 24/7

5/16/2011

Gainesville FL CONECTer Report on 5-10-2011:

During the week of prayer April 28th through May 5th, the National Day of Prayer, 16 local congregations participated in 24 hour prayer watches. Three additional congregations prayed through Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday the previous week – for a total of 19 congregations covering our city, state and nation in prayer.

Here are a few of the results that we have heard of. This report is respectfully mindful that prayer has gone up by other Christian groups and prayer efforts for the areas that will be mentioned, but the fruition came during ORT.

Operation Rolling Thunder (ORT) began at 7pm April 28th, the day after the horrific outbreak of tornados throughout the southeast. Although our area was under severe weather watches and heavy dark cloud cover the entire day, the only inclement weather experienced was a gentle soaking rain that commenced at 7pm (the very hour ORT was launched) and lasted through the first night with distant rolling thunder. This front ushered in a marvelous cool front that provided gloriously beautiful weather for the entire week and during the National Day of Prayer event.

During ORT the Florida legislature was in session and approved several pro-life bills that now await Florida Gov. Rick Scott’s signature. These three bills will provide: a woman with an ultrasound before an abortion; prevent plans in the new federal health insurance exchanges from covering abortions; and place an amendment on the 2012 ballot that would prevent taxpayer funding of abortion.  It is notable that the ultrasound legislation was vetoed last year by former Gov. Charlie Crist. Much work still needs to be done in this area to protect the lives of the unborn, but these measures will have life saving impact. We still seek God’s mercy and assistance with completely removing this scourge.

Most notably on our ORT watch was the final judgment rendered to Osama Bin Laden on Sunday, May 1st. While we do not rejoice in the death of our enemy, and readily acknowledge that our city’s prayers alone did not release vindication, it is notable and must be mentioned.

There is much work to be done in our city. And while the local gathering for the National Day of Prayer was mediocre at best, there is a new interest among pastors to work towards covering the area in 24/7 prayer. Our local Christian Pastors Association has expressed a desire to enlist 31 congregations to cover one 24 hour period per month, thus implementing non-stop prayer and invite God’s presence into our city and region. For those that were able to participate in the Gathering, the Lord’s presence was there in a sweet tangible way.

The following day, May 6th, was marked with an unexpected gentle rain, when no rain had been in the forecast.

To God alone, belongs all glory and honor.

Respectfully yours,

Carl & Brenda Krames
